Friends:
While there has been no update this week from Chief Anoquot, it is helpful to be reminded that the Saugeen First Nation beaches/shoreline are still closed. The reason given last week by the Chief still stands. “Sauble Beach (SFN Beaches) will remain closed until safety concerns over erosion are addressed. Please be patient.”
Please do not go on the beach for any reason. The closure is being enforced by Cancom Security.
Cancom Security staff have confirmed that anyone walking on the beach, swimming, paddle boarding, kite boarding, kayaking or canoeing is subject to a $500 fine.
If we hear of a change, we will let you know.
We remind you that the provincial rules for the State of Emergency still apply:
- Maintain 6′ of separation
- Wear a mask if you cannot socially distance
- No more that five people may gather in one place.
- Wash your hands frequently
- Refrain from unnecessary travel
I have a suggestion. The Band has given us the month of November, 2020 in lieu of May, 2020. I think it would make much more sense for the Band to give us April, 2021 as our replacement for losing May. Basically, few will take advantage of the November option, but many more would take advantage of next April in order to get up early and get the cottage opened and ready for the summer. I would like to see SCOI present this option to the Band.
Have the cottagers been officially told we get November in lieu of May. I don’t recall being notified of this. Have I missed something
The Chief has made the suggestion but there has been nothing formal. We have also had the suggestion that April of next year may be a better option. SCOI will be discussing this further with the Band once their offices reopen.
I’m still hoping we can go to the beach, at least for a swim. But sadly I am seeing some of my neighbours not respecting the rules.
Is kayaking permitted if we launch from our own cottage we are not on the beach.

The Band contracts this out and it is not usually done until later this month. It has been unusually dry and thus the dust earlier than other years.

We have No Access and no parking except in a fire lane to the beach. We have no garbage pick up and in order to get to our cottage we must trek along the beach. We’ve been promised a driveway since last year but we’re at a loss. ?
We’re aware of this and have written to Kirk Roote about it. There’s not anything more that SCOI can do. We encourage you to contact Kirk directly: Kirk.roote@saugeen.org.
This can’t come as a surprise since every beach in Ontario remains closed. We need to comply. Thanks for this reminder, though, as we watched people going down the walkway to the beach all weekend.
