- Only fill bird feeders during winter months
- Don’t let leave pet food outside
- Pick ripe fruit from trees and bushes

We also had a bear on our property @ Bruce Road 13.
Bear was only interested in our hummingbird feeder that we forgot to bring inside. He bent the feeder holder completely in half…but thankfully we repaired it. Look out folks and heed the reminders!
Are these stock photos or actual sightings?
The photos were sent to us by a cottager on Ah-Sineese, taken on June 15, 2020.
We saw a bear cub walk down our driveway and into our backyard and then continue to walk east to the neighbours on June 18 at 1pm. We are on Bruce Road 13, 2 cottages West of Ah-Sineese. We did not see a Momma Bear.
Can you confirm the no dogs on the beach rule for me. I have a dog that I keep on my property but on an average day at least a dozen go by on the beach.
The no-dogs-on-the-beach rule has not changed.
Yes I’ve seen dogs on the beach too in the last week between 12 th and 16 th.
Thank you keeping us informed
Thanks for the heads up. I have been putting garbage bags in our road box on Saunday if we leave the cottage.
I’ve emailed twice asking for Septic Tank businesses approved by the band. No response. I need to get a quote.

June 15th there was a bear right outside our cottage at 6:30 am our dog chased it up the tree. We are Lot 240
Does Cancom work weekends. People have parked all weekend at the 16th st. access right below the no parking signs.
Yes, they do.
Seen at least 6 cars parked at the end of 16th through the week. They were there most of the day.
If it bothers you, please call CanCom. Their contact information is here.
Hi there….Not bear related. Is the driveway garage sale still a go for this year?
I have never heard of any “driveway garage sale”. Garage sales are strongly discouraged by the public health unit, in any case. Please don’t put large items or bags of leaves out. They won’t be picked up with the garbage and if they last too long you will get a bill for disposal.
I had bell installed about two weeks ago. About $60 a month, can pause it for the winter fo $40 or $50 which saves a reconnect fee. Transmitter is on Maryville Lake road so a good strong connection here on 16th st s
The annual driveway sale for Block B is cancelled for this year due to Covid-19 safety/distancing issues.
Good morning. Any thoughts on a wifi provider. I have only found Eastlink and not received a call back from the band one. We want to have internet this year. Thanks
We’re on 9th Street South, and the only good option I had was Bell. It’s not the cheapest option, but the wifi works quite well.
Two weeks in a row we put out garbage for Monday collection. It was not picked up until Tuesday . Has the collection day changed? This is a further problem if there are bears in the area.
No, but there can be mechanical issues with trucks and other things. We haven’t heard of any specific issues with garbage collection recently. Sometimes volume slows things down, too.
I know the metal garbage boxes are expensive but even investing in wooden boxes are more secure than putting out regular garbage cans. I am on Ah-Sineese, bears and/or racoons are getting into garbage cans. Some are still only putting out garbage bags and garbage is strewn all over the road now.
Also, if garbage pick up is suppose to be on Mondays, it would help if they showed up..
This is not uncommon in rural municipalities. Bins are a great suggestion and we encourage that. Putting out bags alone will result in a mess, usually.
We have a bin and have been putting the garbage out Sunday night for Monday pick up. For the past two weeks we have had a problem with pick up. Last week it was not picked up at all (as well as some neighbours). Bears got into the garbage and pushed the bin all the way into the middle of our lane way. This week they didn’t pick it up until Tuesday afternoon but the bears had already been there early Tuesday morning. We have had to pick up garbage two weeks in a row. Could we please have a consistent pick up day?
Hello, not bear sighting related. I’m on Thompson close to French Bay Rd. I’m reading that the beach has been closed again by Mayor Jackson. Is the beach at our side also closed?
The Saugeen First Nation beaches are still closed to the public but open for SFN cottagers and Band members.
With all the latest news stories about the beach being closed again because of irresponsible day-trippers, is there any news on whether or not cottagers will still be allowed to access the beach? It would be unfortunate if some bad apples spoiled it for the rest of us who are being so careful and respectful.
The Saugeen First Nation beaches are still closed to the public but open for SFN cottagers and Band members.
Bears were celebrating Canada Day by overnight dining in 2nd Ave South south of 31st St. Celebrants tipped over garbage boxes and then dined on the contents. The bruins were well behaved in that they were not noisy, but they did leave a bit of a mess to clean up.
Chief’s Point cottagers continue to report issues of bears in garbage. Bears, being instinctive feeders, are simply doing what comes naturally. If we keep setting the table for them, they will come. So will coons, skunks, gulls and other animals. The solution is to stop the gravy train. Follow the advice on the MNR’s Bear Wise web site (https://www.ontario.ca/page/prevent-bear-encounters-bear-wise)
Garbage:
Put garbage out only on the morning of garbage day, not the night before (and don’t put bags out alone; use a proper garbage bin)
Put meat scraps in the freezer until garbage day.
Put garbage in containers that have tight-fitting lids and store it in a bear-proof location such as your basement or a sturdy garage.
Frequently wash garbage cans and recycle containers and lids with a strong-smelling disinfectant, such as bleach.
Take garbage to the dump often, if you do not have curbside pick-up (or take garbage home – don’t leave it at the landfill gate, local gas stations or highway picnic spots, either)
Put bird feeders away.
Don’t leave pet food outside.
Clean your barbecue often.
Keep your dog on a leash (this is a band requirement, BTW).
We had a large bear break own our shed doors overnight, July 11. We have pictures, but they are not good enough to actually post. We are at 33 Thompson Ave.
Possibly the same bear who trashed garbage boxes on the south end of 2nd Ave last weekend.
