Please Leave Your Best Friend at the Cottage
Band Administration has asked that we remind everyone of the Sauble Park Rules and Regulations governing the Park.
Technically the Park includes only the Main Beach but the rules also apply to French Bay Cove Beach (immediately to the South of French Bay Road) and to French Bay Beach. The Band’s security contractor, Cancom Security, is reporting on a daily basis that they have to ask people to remove their dogs from the park, a majority of these being cottagers and their pets.
We ask that you review the policy and adhere to the rules so that all can enjoy a safe and comfortable experience at the beach.
See Full Policy Here
Cancom Security patrols from 2pm to 2am and will also enforce the rule. If there is a dog on the beach or running loose or owners not picking up after their animals you can call Cancom to report it at 519-379-5332.
However if there is a police or medical emergency, call 911.
Maybe if people were fined for breaking the rules they might remember. Just a thought!
Thanks Bob for your comment. I’m sure if this dog situation does not improve it will come to that.
It’s unfortunate to hear that cottagers are being blamed for ignoring the no dogs allowed signage. At the 10th Street walk down we’ve observed the greatest number of those bringing their dogs to the beach to be from Carson’s Camp. Many of them say the Camp management doesn’t tell them when they rent trailer spots that dogs are not allowed. Others believe the rules don’t apply after 6. I hope the band is also addressing this issue to Carson’s management. People also need to pick up after their pets.
Thank you for this information. We will be raising it with Band administration when we meet later this week.
I dont understand why I can’t walk my dog on the “roadway” of the beach at night when my pet is usually cleaner then most of the people that have set up camp for the day and left with all of their garbage spread out over the beach for the seagulls to feast on.
I agree. I have a small dog that I walk through all Toronto parks while on his leash. Never had a complaint. I pick up after him, ensure he does not bark or disturb others and he always minds his manors. If all visitors to the beach followed these simple rules, all people would use the provided portable toilets, not leave their garbage behind and keep their music to a reasonable level. I guess its just easier to pick on our friendly feline friends.
Why not allow leased dogs on the beach after 6 p.m.????
I totally agree we should allow dogs on the beach after 6 pm or early morning as long as all pet owners pick up after their dogs. The condition left on the beach when people pack up and leave is sometimes appalling!
Last summer, the Cancom security staff that patrol the Beach and all Band lands were collecting data on the things that they encountered when making their rounds. One of the things that came to light was the number of people walking their dogs on the beaches. In all cases they stopped the dog walker and reminded them of the by-law prohibiting dogs from being on the beach. A large majority of those stopped were cottage owners rather than day trippers or local full-time residents. The numbers of cottage owners was so stark that the Chief actually called the SCOI President to ask that we immediately send notice to our members to remind them about the no dogs on the beach by-law.
There have been suggestions that dogs be allowed on the beach early in the morning and in the evening. This is something that we will bring up with the Chief at our next meeting, which should take place later this spring.
Not all people are dog lovers and many dog lovers don’t understand this. I don’t trust any ones dog even when you tell me how friendly they are dogs are dogs and you don’t know what they will do. Still you let them jump all over me and my grandchildren and think nothing of it. I have had several encounters with dogs on the beach on the roads as I am a walker. So don’t snub me just because I don’t pay attention to your dog and this happens all the time.
Ruth has a point. It is all about respect. From another angle, I do not like it when people run up to me and my dog (usually children) to pet her. She has never bitten, but no one can know or guarantee what might trigger an animal to bite. Also I like the idea of there being allowances for dog walking before and after prime beach going time, its lovely to enjoy the water at a quiet time with my furry companion.
