Tips from a Cottager
I found that the Facebook page for Chippewas of Saugeen First Nation was really helpful and responsive to my inquiries on Facebook messenger.
We had shingles to be disposed of. They can’t be dumped at the main landfill site. The guy at the landfill said that there is a special dumpsite for construction waste (called the Stump Dump). We had to go to the Works Department building on French Bay Road (paved section, beside the Library) and pay them, and then we could dump at the stump dump. The lady there was super helpful and she even took a few minutes and drove out to show us where the spot was on Pashwood Road. She asked to see our landfill ID card. Cost was $80.
All good, but definitely you need to find these things out, and follow the rules because the municipal dumps are NOT willing to take construction waste from leased land cottagers. (We tried two different ones – Sauble Beach and Southampton).
Feel free to share this under my name on the SCOI page. Happy to be a member!

This is really helpful information. Municipalities in Grey and Bruce counties will *not* normally take waste from non-residents of the municipality. They may ask for proof of residence. Use the landfill and the Stump Dump (like the name!)
Very helpful, thanks. Can anyone tell me where the two drinking water stations are located? Thanks.
Please refer to this post regarding water taps.
I visited the dump (French Bay Road, Native site) yesterday (August 17) and was advised that new prices were in effect. I was shown a brochure that detailed the prices. I had a 4’x8′ trailer with sticks and leaves (brush). The cost to dump this was $100. Same price as for a trailer of garbage, apparently there is no distinction. I paid $20 there a month ago for a similar load. I refused to pay this and dumped the trailer this morning at my local dump in Simcoe County for $12. I will not be using this site in the future.
Gordon, thank you for sharing this information. We had not been made aware of this change and will follow up with the Band once their offices reopen.
