What is needed is a reliable Internet provider which up to now appears to be a non-starter and wifi via the band is overloaded apparently.
I looked into internet for last summer. The band was not accepting any more clients.
Bell Telephone offered it in downtown Sauble and in Southampton, but not in French Bay.
Xplornet said they could offer it using a dish. We installed the post at our expense. We drove up for the installation and it worked very quickly during the test that day but when we went to use it for the intended purpose (zoom meetings) it was deadly slow. When I called that we weren’t getting the promised speed we paid for I was told they have no control over the speed, that it varied depending on how many people were using it at the time, and that evenings were usually very slow.
We disconnected the service.
Was told that any of the third party providers would have the same problem, and as such as unsuitable for internet or streaming, and very slow for email etc.
I think if a bulk request went to Bell indicating how many in South Sauble/French Bay/ etc were interested they might install the Fibreoptic cable along Bruce County 13 and feed into French Bay etc. Worth a try from the Association.
SCOI doesn’t have the ability to negotiate bulk internet deals. The survey is intended to gather information that a provider or cottagers might use.
My cottage is on the lake side of Wahbezee. My neighbour has internet, we have been unable to get internet! We were told last summer that the service was over loaded???

I just received my Starlink, once I can get to my cottage I will try it out. I have heard of good results in and around Sauble.
Us too with Starlink. Seems like we should get at least 200mb down and 20 up. good enough for zoom. $150/month after an initial $800 outlay.
I pay $80 a month for unlimited data on my phone through Telus. I run our Fire Stick TV and computer from a hotspot off my phone. No muss no fuss. Easy as pie.
So why won’t the band spend any $ to improve their services and potentially make more money for the band and offer something to their leaseholders. Business 101.
