Now that the north side of the beach is open, is the native side of the beach open to Carson campers. We are getting a lot of questions from Carson campers
We aren’t aware that there has been any change in the Band’s ruling that SFN beach is for use only by Band members and SFN cottage owners. If that has been changed, we haven’t been told.
Carson’s campers should probably ask Carson’s staff first. There is no reason for cottagers to be involved.
We don’t want to be involved, but we are being asked because our cottage is beside the path to beach.
Just a question because we thought our association would know the answer.
Bob and Jan,
We appreciate the position you are in being next to the path leading to the beach from Carson’s Camp. As recently as late last week the Chief made another statement on Facebook. He reiterated that Band members and SFN cottagers can use the beach at their own risk, but that the Beach remains closed to the public. Presumably this includes folks from Carson’s Camp. In an earlier message the Chief indicated that Cancom is patrolling the beaches on ATVs and we also assume that those found on the beach without permission are subject to a fine for trespassing.
We have received communication from Jordan Owl, Cancom security chief for SFN, asking that we make cottagers aware they should carry their landfill pass with them when going to the beach so they can identify themselves as SFN cottagers. We have made Jordan aware that the deadline this year for Service fee payment was June 30th. Because of this not everyone will have a 2020 landfill pass yet. The SFN offices are formally closed but the Lands Management staff have been working away at processing the lease and service fee payments. We expect the last of the service fee cheques will be processed as soon as possible and landfill passes sent to those who have yet to receive them. In the meantime those without them should carry last year’s pass or some form of id so Cancom can confirm you, your family members and your guests as SFN cottagers.
If Carson’s folks do go to the Beach, we see enforcement of the ban as a Band responsibility. However if these people or others are not adhering to the Covid guidelines or are leaving garbage, etc.. we suggest you call Cancom to report these infractions.
Thanks for the info. At this point It does not bother us if campers go to the beach. We have told anyone that asks to check with Carson’s Camp. Thanks again.
