Many of you will have noticed that quite a bit of the recycle material that was placed out at the roadside this week has not been collected. The reason for this is that people continue to ignore the Band’s list of things that can be recycled. This makes it very labour intensive and time consuming for Works Department staff since they have to sort through almost every blue bin and bag to remove the material they cannot recycle. This was a short week and they could not get to everyone.
To insure that recyclables are collected on time each week, the Works department has indicated it will only collect recyclables from those cottages that have taken the time to make sure the right stuff is in the bin/bag.
Bins/bags that include garbage (paper, boxboard, cardboard and glass) will be left behind for the cottage owner (or their family and friends) to deal with.
We would ask that cottagers take more care in sorting to be sure the right stuff gets included and the rest goes into garbage. We also ask that you take responsibility for telling family members and friends who are using your cottage what should go in the blue bin and what does not.
Not everyone is a cottage association member and not everyone subscribes to this website. So we would ask that you also make your neighbours aware of this change.
Thank you for your compliance and for helping us spread the word.
