Interested in why the band is not having at least one annual large garbage pick up for the 2018 cottage season[SERVICE FEE AT $875]–They state the landfill is not sustainable but are willing for an extra fee to allow us cottage owners to drop it off .what is the response from scoi?
The Band has stated it is concerned about the life of their landfill and are convinced that a number of cottage owners were bringing large garbage items to the cottage from home for disposal in an attempt to avoid landfill fees at home. By charging a fee and placing more onus on cottagers to facilitate large item disposal they feel that the volume of garbage will go down significantly. It is unfortunate that some have chosen to spoil it for the rest. Fortunately the Band continues to allow disposal of large items at its landfill (for now). Hopefully the savings from not collecting big items can be reinvested in finding a company that will recycle glass and paper products.
Doubt that cottage owners are bringing there large garbage items all the way to the cottage when all municipalities include large pick up at home.no one is bringing large items from home.We used to have a full recycle program here–sounds like a lot of weak excuses for cutting back on our services.
I agree with Steve. I live in a municipality (Halton Region) that offers large item pickup (max 3 items) every two weeks. Why would I bring up an old couch to the cottage and put it on the curb in September?
I agree with the above comments. Why would cottagers go to all the trouble of bringing large items to their cottage to be picked up. In our region we have large items picked up. This is just a poor excuse! Quite frankly, I am tired of cottagers being blamed all the time.
