Leaving garbage at the gate when the dump is closed
There are cottagers who leave their bagged and other garbage at the gate to the dump during hours when the dump is not open. There are NO DUMPING signs at the gate but apparently not everyone has noticed them.
The bears are quick to get into the garbage and make a mess that staff members then have to clean up.
Staff at the dump have been directed to open bags and search through garbage that has been left at the gate. If there is evidence that identifies the source of the garbage, staff is to call the OPP and have them charge those so identified with either trespassing or littering. If the dump is closed please either store your garbage at the cottage or take it home. Dump hours are posted in the flyer. Don’t forget to take your dump pass!

Dump Hours
Sunday/Monday: CLOSED
Tuesday – Friday: 8:00 am to 4:30 pm
Saturday: 8:00 am to 2:00 pm

I was wondering what the policy is on large Paper Yard bags with full of leaves? It appears like they are not getting picked up. Is there a reason for this? Is there a drop off site other than the dump for yard debris, and if not, is there a fee involved if dropped off at the dump when open?
Thanks for you help with this matter
The Works Department stopped picking up yard waste bags a few years ago because people were hiding other types of garbage in the bags. Cottagers can take them to the dump for the same fee as any other garbage bag. The Fire Department says that, as long as there is not a fire ban in place and they have a safe place to do so, they can burn them. SCOI members should subscribe to get SCOI website updates to be sure to receive notice when a fire ban goes into effect.
You can drop off leaves, including bagged leaves at the Southampton Boy Scout Composting Dump. (Take High Street to the top, turn right, take the first left. The Composting Dump is less than a KM on your left. You can take your leaves and rakings there seven days a week. It is a free service.
You CANNOT take household garbage, trees or bush.
The Saugeen Shores Dump is further down the Road.It will accept recycling items including cardboard for free. The first 300 pounds of brush or wood are free, there is a charge for loads exceeding 300 pounds.
There is a per bag charge for household garbage. This site is open Monday, Wednesday Friday and Saturday mornings
We and 4 others were at the landfill site around 11:00am today ( Saturday June 13th) and it was not open. Another couple had been there earlier. I had checked your website re when it was open. What happened?
When is the next time it is open as we still have all our stuff loaded.
Thanks
